It's been rough. The details aren't really important at this point as everything's been wrapped up and fixed for the most part. Season 1 of "The Planet" or "Township" went swimmingly. I would have liked to get more mechanics (Savage Worlds) worked out and more sessions in but medical and family issues took up a lot of time up until recently. Now with summer approaching I have a few weeks to look over what happened and tweak the game for next semester.

What Happened / What I learned about Game Design; (for reference we are now running on the latest Savage Worlds RPG system)

- Don't give anyone else a spaceship.

- Drug addict Player Characters find some pretty weird stuff via the scavenging roll table.

- Mind bullets can't be insta-kill but need to be way more deadly.

- Little people with high Charisma skills / stats are dangerous.

- Lumberjacks are serious business.

- Jaycub and Toronto's Mayor have a lot in common.

- Flame Throwers are OP in this setting.

- Running people over is an effective means of introducing new Player Characters.

- The Savage Worlds Adventure Deck is the S*** !!!

- They really want to use the Romance Card on Vill or Nah.

- Driving and shooting can get confusing.

- Marscat are OP; make a Mega-evolution.

- The Forest needs to just eat people at random.

- "Everyone Must be a Horrible Person" is the best Character backstory rule ever.

First, I would like to say I'm sorry for having been so selfish on my last journal post by being like "Gimme the votes kay bye!" and then disappearing again. I had kind of a rough summer; the temps went over the 110f mark more then once and it really caused my brain to migraine a lot. I did however get to see Junior Bruce's Live show while I was up in Sac just a wee few weeks ago; which was completely awesome.

So anyhoo... WE'RE IN TEST PLAY PHASE, BABY!

All those aliens and monsters in this dusty gallery? They've taken their first breath and stepped out of the ooze of imagination (Ewww...) to challenge a group of 8... Or 10 players (number will be locked in by next session) willing to put their lives on the line and in the dice.
So far the rules are simple; we're starting with 6x to basically "test" out how players can defeat things based on creativity and such which will then lead to the solid stat numbers.
Last fall I joined the Dungeons and Dragons Club that is now currently going to test my game out. I spent a year basically studying how to be a good game master by watching others and hopefully now I can use what I've learned to run a successful game. (... Also I watched ALOT of Counter Monkey)

______________________________________________________________
The ground rules for character creation I set up as follows;

- Back Story - Your character is a total scumbag. He or She screwed up somewhere, somehow. This place, this planet covered in plant monsters, is going to be your new home only because you burned the other bridges. No one wants you; tell me (the game master)

- Build / Age - Are you fit? Fat or Tall? Short or Skinny? Old or Young? ... This is the abstract physical stat or modifier.

- From / Race - To start, all players were given the options to be a human from either the Moon, Mars or Space... Or Halfling (DnD 1st ed Elf joke). But soon enough in the introduction session I caved and said Fay would be okay too. So far we have one Moonie, one Marian, a Spacer, Twin Fay and the rest are undecided.

- Skills - What the character can do as a learned skill or craft. A character may not like a certain activity, but if they are "skilled" in it then they are much, much more likely to succeed at it and can use that skill to professionally assess certain situations in order to advise a more effect solution.

- Hobbies - Things and concepts that entrance the character and that they feel personally motivated to pursue. A character might not be very good at a hobby, but they are driven through a passion for that hobby to try their best and are perhaps more likely to study it on their own time. A hobby, in the game, might be a lot like an unlock-able achievement in the video game. Not sure.

- Job - Everyone on-planet has to have a Job... Or several. This is almost like listing a character's class in D20; a quick way to look over the current party and figure out how to assign characters to tasks that they will have the higher likelihood of success.
______________________________________________________________

So... What's next? Not sure. A new section is going to show up soon on the front of this gallery as I'm going to use my deviantArt page as the test player's reference site.

(You can vote without a J!nx account by choosing "vote as Guest")

I know, I know... Haven't been around, haven't replied to much of anything and here I am demanding support for the Unsung Minecraft Heros T-Shirt Contest from J!nx. But please, at least just take a peek. If you really don't like it; don't vote for it. But please just take a look in case it is something you would vote for.

We're getting there, really! It's close, it's coming together; projectPlanet is a thing!

So as I get closer and closer, there's a decision to make; free or pay? Or pay and free?
Currently the following idea is buzzing around in my head; make a pdf that will be totally free and print a book that would (to off-set the costs of production) cost money. But then more questions arise; should the pdf and physical book be identical or have different stuff? Say, for example; should the descriptions / fluff text be in the book only but the stats are available in both formats? Or should the textual information be identical but the pdf is black&white and the book would be in full glorious color? What would be a "fair" difference between the two versions or should they be completely identical?
It is a lot of stuff to think about but what it comes down to is this - I want you to see my stuff.
I want everyone to have the oppertunity to experience my work on some level without any finance investment. The reason why is that I use to work at a lot of conventions and I saw what happens to an unknown artist who no one has ever heard of; their work doesn't sell. It seems like once a person's work is known and once a consumer can confidently say that they *know* it is worth buying a book, then everything goes along smoothly. Instead of waiting for the slow return I would like to "throw" my project at you guys so you know exactly what it is and then be able to determine if it's worth anything.

So with all of that in mind; what's the best way to go about this?

(also reviews)

Sword Art Online - Fantastic! This is what happens when the people behind an anime about MMOs actually understand what they are talking about! It is very smart, cleaver and full of disturbing twists in a story about players becoming permately trapped in a fantasy RPG. Think of an "end of the world" or zombie senrio in terms of how being trapped in a hopeless situation affects the mental emotional state of the characters. Also, as a personal note; I hate romances. I hate them because they are rarely well-justified, it often feels like the writers had to stick it in. But not here; the romance that develops in SAO feels earned like the bond between two war veterns.

Madoka Magica - I will admit it can be slow in spots but I would still say it's totally worth watching. This is what happens when a Watchman filter is put over the Magical Girl anime genre; perfectly executed elements of horror and dread fused into ruffles and pink. This is a watch for both genders; although maybe not for young children. It can sometimes feel like a moment of silent hill while always shrouded in a cloak of Moe. (Best. Music. Ever.)

Fun in February

6 min read

Last Sunday my Father, Boyfriend and I went out to lunch for my 26th Birthday.
We decided on a family-owned and operated Thai restaurant mostly because I love Thai Curry Dishes. No matter if Seafood or Tofu or chicken in nature. Yellow curry is good, though I tend to lean towards green and red more often then not. All in All I had a wonderful birthday celebration that really raised my spirits. With the shrimp curry and some pleasant conversation I also received two wonderful gifts; one for work and one for play: a briefcase-style portfolio and a 3DS XL Pink / White.
The last one I felt important to mention here, on deviantArt, mostly because it is a tail of the Power of One IP (Intellectual Property) and how it is possibile to sway opinion with a single announcement. Up until last month I was very much against the idea of owning a 3DS mostly because I was grumpy that the 3D feature wasn't an optional purchase; given that some people ( w/ a history of migraines, headaches and seizures) may be unable to comfortably use the it, yet would still have to pay for it. I was kinda hoping to hold out until a "non-3D" 3DS came out, but that was up until... Pokemon X & Pokemon Y were announced. Suddenly the passion in my argument against owning a 3DS fizzled and all I could think about was 'How can I haz this?!
So, without any bitterness, instead almost childish glee,  I sit here with my new handheld gaming system; now finally realizing at 26-years of age that there is a point when you really do need a larger screen. (Also; Chrono Trigger looks way better on the XL)

Oh~ BTW, I made a cousin to the Red Velvet Cake that's made with vinegar. If you know of the super secret cake that I speak of please tell me what kind of frosting / Icing you prefer it with !
Also, thank you guys so much for all the favs on the "Understand Don't Pity" stamp. I was really suprised at how positively embraced it has been!
